Twice that night I watched Joan prepare both mentally and physically to take the stage before a packed house and then each time deliver over an hour of demanding comedy. In between shows, she changed back into her robe and had some quiet time to relax and sleep. But as soon as the curtain came down on her second show at 1: 15 A.M ., with Spike under her arm, she headed for the airport and the flight to Manhattan. I was completely exhausted at that point, but Joan was still on the move. Later the next afternoon, as I was sitting by the hotel pool, Joan was already in the air chasing the sun back to Las Vegas for that night's performance, with Spike and her new Emmy in tow. MENU
